| | Large Antique Stick Barometer | A substantial and good quality Victorian mercury stick barometer by Ross of London.
The oak case with a well carved pediment and turned finals. The dial having the original twin vernier scale adjuster with weather predictions from 27 to 31 and set behind bevel edged glass and original adjustment knobs below.
The mercury thermometer also encased with bevelled edge glass. Twin dials with weather predictions and 27 to 31.
The barometer retains its original carved oak cistern cover, the whole in very good condition.

This is a wonderful French mid 19th century rendition of the famous Warwick Vase with the famous Parisian foundry Achille Collas Seal. This Warwick vase is excellent casting with wonderful patination and has a removable gilt bronze liner, egg and dart decoration to the edge. The main body of the vase depicting raised mask style heads of Classical Bacchic gods (gods of wine) with grape and vine leaf decoration with acanthus leaf below, all supported on a socle with gilt bronze base
Marked with the Achille Collas seal.
Achille Collas (1795-1859) was an important French engineer and inventor who developed a way of mechanically copying sculptures on a reduced scale, a process he called “réduction méchanique” or mechanical reproduction. The resultant popularization of small sculptures and statues literally transformed the bronze industry.
He perfected his mechanical reproduction machine in 1836, and two years later formed his partnership with Barbedienne.
The official seal of Collas is set into the base as shown below. Collas is shown in side profile with reduction mecanique around the perimeter, and his name A. Collas below with the added word brevete meaning “patented.”
The Warwick vase is an ancient Roman marble vase with Bacchic ornament that was discovered at Hadrian's Villa, Tivoli about 1771 by Gavin Hamilton, as Scottish painter-antiquarian and art dealer in Rome and is now inthe Burrell collection near Glasgow in Scotland. |

This “Second Empire” French desk has been expertly crafted with Kingwood and superb Rosewood cross banding and Kingwood inlaid decoration. The rectangular top is fitted with a gold tooled green leather inset writing surface over an arrangement of five oak lined drawers .
The super structure with four fitted drawers all fitted with decorative ormolu escutcheons complete with a beautiful detailed gallery The desk is raised on square tapering ormolu trimmed inlaid legs that terminate in striking circular Rosewood ormolu mounted toupie sabots
It is beautifully decorated with the most superb cast gilded ormolu mounts and escutcheons with most edges ormolu trimmed complete with the original working locks and exquisite original key.

The secretaire is fully fitted with lettered pigeon holes and choice mahogany,ebony strung fruitwood cross banded fronted oak lined drawers. The satinwood secretaire slide is lined with blue sheepskin sliver tooled leather with ratcheted writing surface so it will elevate to suit a writer or a reader. The arched kneehole cross banded and inlaid frieze below has four choice mahogany fruit wood cross banded oak lined drawers,fitted with the original working locks with keys and flanked by satinwood inlaid panels.The writing desk is raised on finely tapered inlaid legs and stand on the original brass box squat castors.

The spectacular mahogany case has a long trunk door and is flanked by reeded and brass inlaid quarter pillars. The base has raised shaped panel and typical double shaped plinth. Both the trunk door and base panel have superb flame veneers of the highest quality. The hood with separate brass capped and brass inlaid angle pillars below a pagoda top with a shaped sound fret and surmounted with three brass finials .
Dial
12 inch break arch brass dial with silvered subsidiary strike/silent dial to the arch flanked by pierced foliate spandrels. Finely matted centre with calendar aperture ring and large subsidiary seconds dial, shaped cartouche signed Thomas Mudge London. Silvered chapter ring with Roman and Arabic numerals. Blued steel hands.
Movement
Substantial eight day movement with thick plates, five baluster pillars, anchor escapement and large backcock for the iron-rod pendulum with T-bar suspension and heavy lenticular brass-faced bob. Striking the hours on bell.

Thomas Mudge (1715-1794) was born in Exeter in 1715 and was apprenticed to the celebrated clock and watch maker George Graham. In 1738, Thomas Mudge became a Freeman Clockmakers' Company. In 1750, just before his former master's death, Mudge opened his business at the 'Dial and One Crown' in Fleet Street. William Dutton joined him, another of Graham's apprentices, into partnership in circa 1765.
In the eighteenth-century Thomas Mudge ranks highly as one of the most accomplished clock and watch makers. The firm of Mudge and Dutton made clocks and watches of high quality, undoubtedly it is Mudge's individual pieces which have placed him in horological history. Of particular note are his perpetual calendar watch and the equation watches made for John Ellicott to sell to the Spanish Royal court. This magnificent antique Victorian sterling silver spirit kettle has a large bulbous shaped form.
The total bulbous portion of the kettle is embellished with exceptional chased floral rose sprays accented with scrolling borders.
The silver is in excellent condition, with no tears or dents.

These beautiful proportioned cabinets have a rectangular top which is beautifully veneered in walnut.
The frieze between the top edge and the door has a floral marquetry panel.Above the door is a cast brass beading.
There are ormolu mounts on the top and bottom of side pillars,and also brass mounts on sides and a glazed door which is also brass bound. There is floral marquetry on the top corners of the door, and marquetry panels on side pillars.
The whole piece stands on a shaped plinth with shaped front and sides.
The cabinets are one left handed and one right handed with working locks.
Excellent colour and condition.
Each cabinet relined in a warm cream material

| | Antique Bracket Mantel Clock | Superb Antique Regency Design Mahogany Bracket Clock in a mahogany case with brass inlay striking the hours and half hours on a gong, marked J W Benson on the white dial. The case is topped with a fluted pagoda dome over a moulded pediment, brass handles and with brass finial , the front is inlaid with cut brass. The dial bears the makers name above the centre. To each side is a pierced arched sound panel with silk lining, and the whole stands on gilt brass bracket feet.The clock has been recently serviced and is going perfectly well.

The case with inlaid Boulle work, glazed sides and applied gilt scrolls and leaves surmounted with a gilt metal figure. Glazed door with a gilt metal bezel above mythical lyre playing cubit support.All ormolu casting of the finest quality
A conforming pedestal with applied fabulous gilded ormolu mounts above a tapering panel with brass line inlay work against a ebonised ground, raised upon a plinth base and ormolu bracket feet.
?This clock was made by Jacques Nicolas Pierre François Dubuc, a bronzier/ clockmaker, who from 1806 to 1817 is recorded as working on Rue Michel-le-Comte. Jacques' younger brother, Jean-Baptist Charles Gabriel Dubuc (d. 1819), was also a clockmaker, and the two were distinguished by the designations of "le jeune" (the younger) and "l'ainé" (the elder). The Parisian clockmaker Nicolas-Pierre-Francois Dubec, was active in Paris from the final years of the reign of Louis XVI to the early years of the Empire (see Tardy Dictionnaire des horlogers francais Paris, 1971, p 193)

This charming little Black Forest Owl was made by the Oswald company in Germany circa 1926, and was one of a range of "moving eye" clocks. The Owl has the eyes moving round, changing the expression, as it tells the time.

The body of the clock is made of solid linden wood that has been carved with wonderful detail. Our little chap is stood "side on" and standing on a book. (Wise Owl)
It has a beautiful patina and colour.....and its working.
He stands just under 9.5 inches high, and the back plate has a list of the various patents dated 1925 + 1926
No cracks on wood.

John Horsburgh (1835-1924) was born in Eddleston, Peeblesshire, the son of a shoemaker. He was apprenticed to a silk mercer in Edinburgh in his youth, but his interest soon turned to photography. By 1863 he had set up his studio in Edinburgh in South Bridge, which moved briefly to 17 Princes Street and finally to 131 Princes Street by 1868. By the 1871 Census, he was living at 13 Abbortsford Park Edinburgh and he was employing 3 photographers and 3 artists, presumably to colour in the photographs, which was often done in those times.
